Homemade Polymer Clay

At different points over the last few years I've played around with different
kinds of homemade "clay." My favorite is a polymer clay also known as cold
porcelain. Its main ingredients are cornstarch and white PVA or Elmer's glue.
I like it because it's smooth and a little bit elastic to work with and dries
extremely hard. It's also relatively non-porous so it takes paint really well.
And it doesn't degrade over time like baker's clay or salt clay does.
I've used it to cover blown-out chicken eggs for Christmas ornaments, as
well as to make various and sundry bowls, boxes and pendant blanks,
among other things.

But it took awhile to get the recipe right. Most of the ones I found online
resulted in a compound that was way too sticky to work with. So I
experimented with different proportions of glue and cornstarch and the
inclusion/exclusion of various secondary ingredients. What follows is
the fruit of my experimentation. Lucky you!

Materials

3/4 cup white glue
1 cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons mineral oil (I used baby oil but reportedly even vaseline
will work)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Non-stick pot
Wooden spoon
Steps
Add cornstarch to glue in a nonstick pot. Mix together and then add
mineral oil and lemon juice. Blend well.

Cook over low flame stirring pretty much constantly (you can take a
quick break or two if your arm gets tired, which it will) until the mixture
resembles mashed potatoes.

Remove from heat! Squirt a little additional mineral oil around the top
of your mashed potato mass and with your hands, remove it from
the pot. Knead until smooth. It's best to do this while it's still as
hot as you can handle.

Pull off a bit to work with and put the rest in a re-sealable plastic
bag with the top about half-way open until it's cooled down a bit.
Then seal the bag (with as little air in it as you can) and store in the
fridge.

Let dry about 2-3 days, then paint, or not.

Art Auction Fundraiser Tips and Pointers
for Artists, Nonprofits, Bidders

Holding an art auction is an excellent way for non-profits to raise money, for
artist-donors to get free publicity, and for bidders to get quality art at reasonable
prices. The following pointers will help everyone have a great time and realize their
goals at art auction fundraisers, regardless of whether they're buying, selling, or donating.

Tips for artists:
** Career-wise, the best fundraisers for donating are those that support visual arts
organizations and attract members of visual arts communities, especially collectors.
These are great opportunities to get your art and your name out in front of anywhere
from dozens to thousands of people who like art, collect art, and support the visual
arts.
** Donate to a non-art related fundraiser only when it's an established art auction or
you believe strongly in the organization's goals, and not because anyone promises
you career benefits. Donating to a fundraiser that only has a few pieces of art mixed
in with lots of other merchandise, or to one that only attracts politicians,
environmentalists, or health care professionals, for example, usually does little for
your career.
** If you're not familiar with an organization that's requesting a piece of your art, do
some research, find out who they are, make sure you believe in the cause, find out
whether they've conducted art fundraisers in the past, and if so, how successful
they've been. You might even ask for names of artists who are donating to the event,
or who have donated to past fundraisers.
** At the very least, expect free admission to the event that you're donating to.
Also find out how you will be presented-- name, bio, catalog appearance, whether
your art will be illustrated or pictured online, whether your contact information will
be published in either the catalog or on the organization's website (including your
website or active link to your website), and so on.
** Before you decide which piece of art to donate, talk to the people conducting
the auction and ask what types of art and what price ranges sell best. Better yet,
ask if they'll provide you with either websites or catalogs of previous auctions so
that you can see for yourself. The more accurately you pinpoint bidders' tastes
and budgets with your donation, the better the chances that it will attract attention
and sell for a good price.
** Donate a good piece of art. Don't donate the worst, least significant, or most
outdated piece you have lying around your studio. You want your donation to
reflect positively on your level of generosity as well as on the quality and type
of art that you're currently producing.
** Include your bio and contact information with your art. You want to attract
and introduce yourself to as many new collectors as possible. People who like
your art tend to bid higher when they know something about you, what you've
accomplished in your career, and how to reach you if they want to buy or learn
more. Keep it simple though-- the highlights will do just fine for now.
** Whether your art auctions silently or live, set the minimum acceptable opening
bid and selling prices as low as is reasonable, but not so low that they make no
sense with respect to your typical selling prices. When you set minimum bid
dollar amounts too high, you scare bidders away. Remember that many people
go to art auction fundraisers looking for bargains. Also remember that having
nobody bid on your art reflects poorly on you and your career. If you're a good
artist, you have an established track record of shows and sales, and people
know it, your art will be bid up to a fair selling price no matter how low you set the
opening bid.
** If you do not want to sell your art below a certain price, set your opening bid
below that price, but tell the people conducting the auction that you'll only sell
when that certain price is reached (assuming the auction will allow you to do
this of course). For example, if you want a selling price of $500, start the bidding
at $200. That way, even if the art doesn't sell, it'll at least attract bids. Be aware,
though, that insisting on too high a selling price may show that you're more
concerned about yourself and how much your art is worth than you are about
the goals of the organization selling it.
** Cooperate with the people conducting the auction and generally do everything
within your power to make sure your art sells. The worst possible outcome at
this type of event is for your art not to sell.
** Do not donate to every single cause that asks for your art, especially if you
have gallery representation. You can actually end up diluting your market, or
giving collectors the idea that rather than shop at galleries, all they have to do
is wait for the next charity event and then buy on the cheap. If you really want to
support lots of charities, sell your art through retail outlets and donate cash.
Tips for bidders:
** Look at all the art. Fundraising art auctions are great places to learn about art
and artists you've never seen or heard of before.
** Don't automatically assume that all art is bargain priced. Find out about artists
whose art you like before you bid. The best way to do this is to preview the art
ahead of time or get a list of artist donors. That way, you're prepared to bid wisely.
** Make sure that you're getting a quality current example of an artist's work.
Unfortunately, some artists donate low-end, oddball, or problem pieces that they
can't sell and just want to get rid of.
** Be generous. You're attending the auction to support the organization selling the
art. Going a bit over budget is not so bad when those few extra dollars go to a good
cause.
** Artists often attend fundraising art auctions and position themselves in the vicinity
of their art. Keep your eye out for opportunities to meet artists and learn about their
art.
** Go easy on the intoxicants. Nothing is worse than finding out the next morning
that you've paid too much for a piece of art that you can't stand to look at.

Tips for organizations conducting art auction fundraisers:
** Publish submission guidelines for artist donors. Include pointers on what types of
art sell the best, what price ranges bidders like to buy in, and how artists can best
present themselves and their art.
** Tell artists how the auction is promoted, how they benefit from the publicity, and
how many people come to see their art.
** Urge artists to set minimum bids and selling prices as reasonably as possible.
** Publish a sale catalogue that includes basic information about each artist and
work of art that's for sale. Mail it out to attendees as soon as they pay for their
tickets. The longer they have to see and think about the art and get familiar with it,
they easier it is for them to bid. Additionally, the better you promote the event and
the more art sells, the better quality art, artists and bidders you'll attract for your
next fundraiser auction.
** Choose a venue with plenty of room, good ventilation, and adequate display space.
You want everyone to have plenty of opportunity to see all of the art in a relaxed and
comfortable setting. Contented bidders are active bidders.
** The admission price to the auction should include complimentary refreshments.
** Make sure that the most active bidders get preferred seating.
** Hire an auctioneer with experience doing fundraising auctions. Get names and
contact information from other non-profits that have held successful charity auctions.
Fundraisers are not like ordinary auctions where you want to move merchandise as
fast as possible to bidders looking for bargains. A skilled charity event auctioneer
can make a huge difference in the bottom line.
** Your auctioneer should have a sense of humor, be able to excite an audience,
encourage competition among bidders, spend time presenting and describing each
item, and convince bidders to be extra generous on behalf of the causes that your
organization represents.
** Make sure the auctioneer has notes describing each work of art. Well-described
art sells for more money than poorly described art.
** Display each piece of art as prominently as possible. The better the art looks in
its surroundings, the higher bidders tend to bid. This is especially true for live auction
items. Use quality easels, white gloves, cascading velvet backdrops, pinpoint
spotlights, and whatever other embellishments you have on hand to enhance the
dramatic impact of the art.
** Make sure bidders can find out about any artist whose art they want to bid on.
The more informed bidders are and the more comfortable they feel about bidding
the higher they tend to bid.

Tiny Bubbles: Favorite Drinks, Once Magnified,

Become Art

New Year’s Cocktail

New Year’s Eve is a time for merriment and drinking. Nothing rings in the new year like a glass of bubbly but have you ever wondered what exactly is going into our bodies as we sing Auld Lang Syne? At FSU’s chemistry department, in correlation with Bevshots, scientists have taken classic cocktails and magnified them up to 1000 times, producing some breathtaking images reminiscent of Kandinsky, and other abstract painters. All images can be purchased at the Bevshots website.

Just like snowflakes no two beverage crystals are exactly the same. An up-close-and-personal view of vodka is shown here.

With a process developed at Florida State University, BevShots, based in Tallahassee, Fla., produces colorful images of wine, liquor and beer magnified up to 1,000 times. The company sells them to buyers as works of art. “Each image is a picture of beverage crystals taken through the lens of a polarized light microscope,” said Lester Hutt, the company’s president. Scotch is shown here.

A microscopic picture of white wine is shown here. These colorful microscopic “shots” of alcoholic drinks reveal the incredible molecules that make up our favorite potent potables. They are sold as art works for buyers who appreciate the kaleidoscopic effects of the booze.

Next time you take a shot of tequila, remember that this is what it looks like when you zoom in.

Depending on the difficulty of crystallizing a beverage, the process can take anywhere from four weeks to more than six months. Red wine crystals are captured in this image.

This is the only non-alcoholic beverage magnified– who knew each drop of a popular soft drink could look like this? A microscopic picture of Coca Cola taken in the chemistry department of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla.

To form the crystals, Lester Hutt said drops of a beverage are placed on a glass microscope slide to dry out. As the cocktail dries, the ingredients and impurities form crystals. To find crystals beautiful enough to use as art, Michael Davidson, the scientist who shot the images, often creates more than 200 slides of the same drink. A close-up image of American light beer is photographed here.

The variation in color and shape comes from the composition of the crystals, Hutt said. Some mixed cocktails, such as Pina Colada (shown here), contain a lot of sugar, which forms crystals differently than liquors like vodka with fewer impurities, he said.

The colors may look like they’re manipulated by photo-editing software, but Hutt said they are real as real can be. As the polarized microscope light passes through the crystals, the light is refracted and creates a rainbow. The many colors of Mexican beer are show here.

Andy Warhol's Marilyn Prints

In the 1960s, Andy Warhol created several “mass-produced” images from photographs of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Jackie Onassis.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a key figure in Pop Art, an art movement that emerged in America and elsewhere in the 1950s to become prominent over the next two decades.

The Fauves used non-representational color and representational form to convey different sensations. Apply the same idea to the portrait of Marilyn Monroe below, using the controls to adjust the colors. How does the color affect the mood?

Unlike the Fauve colors, the non-representational colors of Pop Art do not depict the artist’s inner sensation of the world. They refer to the popular culture, which also inspires Warhol to experiment with the technique of silkscreen printing, a popular technique used for mass production. In doing so, Warhol moves away from the elitist avant-garde tradition. Initially, many spectators received this new marriage between art and commodity culture with little enthusiasm.

On the occasion of Marilyn Monroe’s suicide in August 1962, Warhol used this image for his screenprinting. It was a publicity shot by Gene Korman for the film Niagara, made in 1953.

This set was inspired by a small rug I have with fish in it .

One day I looked at the rug and thought about painting fish.

I had no clue what it would turn out like and then I thought about small fish being eaten by bigger fish and so on until I got this painting !!

I brushed a blue and green background with a sponge brush and put some texture in it for water .

There are red and yellow fish with the white dots to add a little folk art look .

These fish are fish food to a bigger fish --- right ??

A fun painting and will add some fun to any decor !

5 Ways to Grow as an Artist

5 Ways to Grow as an Artist

So how would a Cassatt or a Henri or Picasso approach painting differently than we do today? How might this heartfelt fear of others controlling our painting process impact our self-understanding as artists? Here are five possible answers:

1. Making a successful picture is not the goal. Think of periods, such as childhood, when we grew, our self-understanding changed and we became more of who we are. There was an endless stream of events where we expressed ourselves and slowly began to discover the things that pleased us. As with the sense of freedom characterized above, the entire payoff was growth. The events of life when we grow are the things that happen along the way. Making art should be exactly the same. Paintings are just the series of events or steps we take. Let them go. Keep moving. Or as Henri implored, “Keep living.”

2. The painting process is always a beginning. As soon as the freshness evaporates (we are bored or lost or acquire interest in something else), stop. Do not think in terms of finishing. Picasso lectures eloquently on this. Finish is the death of our work because it means we are painting an expectation or “to be like” and that puts the brakes on painting to see and feel more deeply. Every beginning is a new prompt, a new point of departure. Begin everything. Finish nothing.

3. Ignore non-artist authorities. Juries, the grantors, the gallery, the direction from above are just so many fingers in our pie. All external measures are dangerous because they not only push us to performing, as opposed to creating, but their sense of worth takes over our own. This is precisely what Parisian artists fought against.

4. Get into a prolonged creative process. Have dozens of paintings in your studio that have been abandoned for one reason or another, left in various stages, unfinished but always complete as expressions of who you were at that moment. Work on several paintings simultaneously. You are not making shoes.

5. Furnish the world with your beauty, let the world see, touch and feel who you are.Scary I know. It is so much easier to hide within safe fortresses, the sources of praise and dignity that we can count on by pleasing our audience. This is the dreaded condition called style. We cannot be free to be who we are if we are not always risking being who we are in front of others.

What about the career, you ask? The painters of Paris were incredibly ambitious but their big career move, as it turned out, was biting the hand that fed them. Career yes, but freedom to become is holy ground. No Faustian deals, please. Therefore, we may put an entrepreneurial hat on once we put down the brush, but never when it limits our becoming. The assembly line to the great gallery opening is every artist’s kiss of death.
The life of Franz Schubert may suggest a model. He was so into the process of creating music that each of his new efforts was but an opportunity for little Franzel to become more Schubert. So, he would compose the work, let it go and move on. His students would then find the work, practice it and perform it for him afterwards, whereupon Schubert is reported to have said, “My, that is lovely. Who wrote it?”
This is the way to make art. Move in the direction of the greatest pleasure and excitement. You are gifted. Risk showing us your gift. Where others are drowning, you will be diving. And it is when you cannot be bothered with product, you will look about the studio and find a few pieces that have a life. Your life. And so you gather them up and market them. And then after 30 years of painting, you will have had a career and the “later” you will have emerged. You will have grown. And you will have been an artist.
Ah, those Parisians. They had a way.

Everyone loves a good fairy tale. The whimsical characters and fantastical events capture our imaginations and might even serve to teach us a lesson or two. This magical mirror from Romy van den Broek lets fairy tale lovers of any age actually become part of the story. Although it looks like a floor mirror, it is actually a large, highly reflective touch screen equipped with motion capture technology. As the story progresses, the user interacts with the setting and characters in a variety of very cool ways. This is a wonderful start to this 7 (almost 8) year old little girl's art career !!
She has an artistic talent ( not bragging just because she is my granddaughter ).
She asked me if I could please list this for her because she wants to buy more art supplies .
Of course, I said I would !!

This is a set of 2 canvases -- painted on sides .

A unicorn is leading the way to pick up the Princess for the ball !!
The unicorn has wings , horn and pink mane / tail.
The carriage is lovely and driven by a man with a black top hat.
She sponge rolled the purple background.

How to Display Art

When buying art remember that you are trying to personalize your home with art and accessories. You must decide what you like and what you can live with.
When decorating try to repeat a color at least three times in a room.
Relate your art to its surroundings. Art prints placed about 6"-9" above a sofa will create a unified look.
Cover two thirds of the space above furniture with one or more pieces of art to achieve proper proportion.
Position artwork at "eye level" to look at the center of it from either a sitting or standing position.
Vary the height of table top accessories for balance and interest.
Create a formal look with symmetrical groupings of art. Create an informal look with asymmetrical groupings.
Place mirrors so they reflect something beautiful. Use them to add dimension, expand space or reflect light in a room.
Display art on easels to create interest in corners, bookcases or on table tops.
Custom frame artwork to coordinate with room decor. Select a frame that compliments the decorating style. Select mat colors that enhance both the art and color scheme.

Feng Shui Colors:
The basic Chinese interpretation of color is symbolic. Each color is also attributed to one of the five Elements. The strongest Feng Shui colors are red, green and gold which are used in the painting of Pa Kua (an octagonal shaped symbol which contains the four cardinal directions and the four intercardinal directions of the compass, plus the elements and the Trigrams.) and many other Chinese decorations.

I took the pictures while paint is still wet -- so it really glistens !! It will not shine like the pictures once it is dry.

Today is one of the first Father's Days of our new millennium. Fathers of 1900 didn't have it nearly as good as fathers of today; but they did have a few advantages:

In 1900, fathers prayed their children would learn English.

Today, fathers pray their children will speak English.

In 1900, a father's horsepower meant his horses.

Today, it's the size of his minivan.

In 1900, if a father put a roof over his family's head, he was a success.

Today, it takes a roof, deck, pool, and 4-car garage. And that's just the vacation home.

In 1900, a father waited for the doctor to tell him when the baby arrived.

Today, a father must wear a smock, know how to breathe, and make sure film is in the video camera.

In 1900, fathers passed on clothing to their sons.

Today, kids wouldn't touch Dad's clothes if they were sliding naked down an icicle.

This guy is phenomenal. Just imagine the characteristics of such a man, the patience, the love of simplicity, the REALLY good eyesight. Brazillian, Connecticut based Dalton Ghetti through the strength in his own love for art, sculpts miniature objects on the minuscule sized tips of pencils. The fascinating precision behind the sculptures are created using sewing needles and sculpting blades. Just imagine how many times he make a mistake, sharpens the pencil and just tries again.

12 ways to simplify your life and set your spirit free!

Clean out the clutter; in your mind, your appointment book, your garage... and let your true spirit come out and play!

FOR A MOMENT, let’s imagine what it would be like to be fully alive without a physical shell or any of the stuff we need and desire for maintaining life on Earth. We’d have a mental energy that allowed us to move forward or backward, up or down, instantly creating whatever we desired. We’d be free to wallow in an exquisite existence without time or space as we know it. We’d be in a state of pure bliss, in love with everything and everyone. We’d have no duties or bills to tend to, no fear of losing anything, no one judging us, no possessions to insure, no demands on our time, and no goals to achieve.

What we’re envisioning is actually the world of Spirit, which we experienced before we came here and will return to when we shed our body (or as William Butler Yeats poetically called it, our “tattered coat upon a stick”).

Inspiration is a state of being here now in this material world, while at the same time reconnecting to our spiritual origins. In order to be receptive to inspiration, we need to eliminate the ego clutter that accumulates all too easily for most of us—after all, if we’re preoccupied with events and activities that have nothing to do with inspiration, we’re unlikely to notice its summons. So in order to achieve a reunion with our ultimate calling, we need to emulate the clear, uncomplicated world of Spirit.

This doesn’t mean that we should sit around doing nothing, awaiting Spirit’s arrival; instead, it means having faith that our spiritual connection flourishes in a life dedicated to joy, love, and peace. If our daily activities are so overwhelming that we don’t make these things our priority, then we’re disregarding the value of living a simple life.

MY 12-STEP PROGRAM TO SIMPLICITY

Here are 12 very specific tools for simplifying your life. Begin using them today if you’re serious about hearing that ultimate call to inspiration.

Unclutter your life. You’ll feel a real rush of inspiration when you clear out stuff that’s no longer useful in your life:

If you haven’t worn it in the past year or two, recycle it for others to use. Get rid of old files that take up space and are seldom, if ever, needed. Donate unused toys, tools, books, bicycles, and dishes to a charitable organization.

Get rid of anything that keeps you mired in acquisitions that contribute to a cluttered life. In the words of Socrates, “He is nearest to God who needs the fewest things.” So the less you need to insure, protect, dust, reorganize, and move, the closer you’ll be to hearing inspiration’s call.

Clear your calendar of unwanted and unnecessary activities and obligations. If you’re unavailable for Spirit, you’re unlikely to know the glow of inspiration. God will indeed work with you and send you the guidance—and the people—you need, but if you’re grossly overscheduled, you’re going to miss these life-altering gifts. So practice saying no to excessive demands and don’t feel guilty about injecting a dose of leisure time into your daily routine.

Be sure to keep your free time free. Be on the lookout for invitations to functions that may keep you on top of society’s pyramid, but which inhibit your access to joyful inspiration. If cocktail parties, social get-togethers, fund-raising events, or even drinking-and-gossiping gatherings with friends aren’t really how you want to spend your free time, then don’t. Begin declining invitations that don’t activate feelings of inspiration.

I find that an evening spent reading or writing letters, watching a movie with a loved one, having dinner with my children, or even exercising alone is far more inspiring than getting dressed to attend a function often filled with small talk. I’ve learned to be unavailable for such events without apologizing, and consequently have more inspired moments freed up.

Take time for meditation and yoga. Give yourself at least 20 minutes a day to sit quietly and make conscious contact with God. I’ve written an entire book on this subject called Getting in the Gap, so I won’t belabor it here. I will say that I’ve received thousands of messages from people all over the world, who have expressed their appreciation for learning how to simplify their life by taking the time to meditate.

I also encourage you to find a yoga center near you and begin a regular practice. The rewards are so powerful: You’ll feel healthier, less stressed, and inspired by what you’ll be able to do with and for your body in a very short time.

Return to the simplicity of nature. There’s nothing more awe inspiring than nature itself. The fantasy to return to a less tumultuous life almost always involves living in the splendor of the mountains, the forests, or the tundra; on an island; near the ocean; or beside a lake. These are universal urges, since nature is created by the same Source as we are, and we’re made up of the same chemicals as all of nature (we’re stardust, remember?).

Your urge to simplify and feel inspired is fueled by the desire to be your natural self—that is, your nature self. So give yourself permission to get away to trek or camp in the woods; swim in a river, lake, or ocean; sit by an open fire; ride horseback through trails; or ski down a mountain slope. This doesn’t have to mean long, planned vacations that are months away—no matter where you live, you’re only a few hours or even moments away from a park, campground, or trail that will allow you to enjoy a feeling of being connected to the entire Universe.

Put distance between you and your critics. Choose to align yourself with people who are like-minded in their search for simplified inspiration. Give those who find fault or who are confrontational a silent blessing and remove yourself from their energy as quickly as possible. Your life is simplified enormously when you don’t have to defend yourself to anyone, and when you receive support rather than criticism. You don’t have to endure the criticism with anything other than a polite thank-you and a promise to consider what’s been said—anything else is a state of conflict that erases the possibility of your feeling inspired. You never need to defend yourself or your desires to anyone, as those inner feelings are Spirit speaking to you. Those thoughts are sacred, so don’t ever let anyone trample on them.

Take some time for your health. Consider that the number one health problem in America seems to be obesity. How can you feel inspired and live in simplicity if you’re gorging on excessive amounts of food and eliminating the exercise that the body craves? Recall that your body is a sacred temple where you reside for this lifetime, so make some time every single day for exercising it. Even if you can only manage a walk around the block, just do it. Similarly, keep the wordsportion control uppermost in your consciousness—your stomach is the size of your fist, not a wheelbarrow! Respect your sacred temple and simplify your life by being an exerciser and a sensible eater. I promise that you’ll feel inspired if you act on this today!

Play, play, play! You’ll simplify your life and feel inspired if you learn to play rather than work your way through life. I love to be around kids because they inspire me with their laughter and frivolity. In fact, if I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times: “Wayne, you’ve never grown up—you’re always playing.” I take great pride in this! I play onstage when I speak, and I’m playing now as I write.

Many years ago I was given a tremendous opportunity to appear on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The man who took a chance on me, booking me even though I was an unknown at the time, was a talent coordinator named Howard Papush. It was my first big break, and I went on to appear on The Tonight Show 36 additional times. Now it’s my turn to say thank you to Howard. He’s written a wonderful book titled When’s Recess? Playing Your Way Through the Stresses of Life, which I encourage you to read. (Howard also conducts workshops that teach people how to play and have fun in life.) In the book, Howard shares this great quote from Richard Bach: “You are led through your lifetime by the inner learning creature, the playful spiritual being that is your real self.” I couldn’t agree more—by all means, get back in touch with your real, playful self, and take every opportunity to play! Notice how it makes everything so sweet, and so simple.

Slow down. One of Gandhi’s most illuminating observations reminds us that “there is more to life than increasing its speed.” This is great advice for simplifying your life—in fact, slow everything way down for a few moments right here and now. Slowly read these words. Slow your breathing down so that you’re aware of each inhalation and exhalation...

When you’re in your car, downshift and relax. Slow down your speech, your inner thoughts, and the frantic pace of everything you do. Take more time to hear others. Notice your inclination to interrupt and get the conversation over with, and then choose to listen instead. Stop to enjoy the stars on a clear night and the cloud formations on a crisp day. Sit down in a mall and just observe how everyone seems in a hurry to get nowhere.

By slowing down, you’ll simplify and rejoin the perfect pace at which creation works. Imagine trying to hurry nature up by tugging at an emerging tomato plant—you’re as natural as that plant, so let yourself be at peace with the perfection of nature’s plan.

Do everything you can to eschew debt. Remember that you’re attempting to simplify your life here, so you don’t need to purchase more of what will complicate and clutter your life. If you can’t afford it, let it go until you can. By going into debt, you’ll just add layers of anxiety onto your life. That anxiety will then take you away from your peace, which is where you are when you’re in-Spirit. When you have to work extra hard to pay off debts, the present moments of your life are less enjoyable; consequently, you’re further away from the joy and peace that are the trademarks of inspiration. You’re far better off to have less and enjoy the days of your life than to take on debt and invite stress and anxiety where peace and tranquility could have reigned. And remember that the money you have in your possession is nothing but energy—so refuse to plug in to an energy system that’s not even there.

Forget about the cash value. I try not to think about money too frequently because it’s been my observation that people who do so tend to think about almost nothing else. So do what your heart tells you will bring you joy, rather than determining whether it will be cost-effective. If you’d really enjoy that whale-watching trip, for instance, make the decision to do so—don’t deny yourself the pleasures of life because of some monetary detail. Don’t base your purchases on getting a discount, and don’t rob yourself of a simple joy because you didn’t get a break on the price. You can afford a happy, fulfilling life, and if you’re busy right now thinking that I have some nerve telling you this because of your bleak financial picture, then you have your own barrier of resistance.

Make an attempt to free yourself from placing a price tag on everything you have and do—after all, in the world of Spirit, there are no price tags. Don’t make money the guiding principle for what you have or do; rather, simplify your life and return to Spirit by finding the inherent value in everything. A dollar does not determine worth, even though you live in a world that attempts to convince you otherwise.

Remember your spirit. When life tends to get overly complex, too fast, too cluttered, too deadline oriented, or too type A for you, stop and remember your own spirit. You’re headed for inspiration, a simple, peaceful place where you’re in harmony with the perfect timing of all creation. Go there in your mind, and stop frequently to remember what you really want.

A man who personified success at the highest intellectual and social levels would hardly seem one to quote on simplifying our life, yet here’s what Albert Einstein offers us on this subject: “Possessions, outward success, publicity, luxury—to me these have always been contemptible. I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is best for everyone, best both for the body and the mind.”

Wow! I’d say this is pretty good advice, wouldn’t you?

Paint still wet when I took the pics !

16x20 inch acrylic painting on stretched canvas .

I wanted to paint something bright and fun !!

Flowers can be in any color and any size or shape.

Everyone loves the fragrant flower and sometimes a wild flower is the most beautifully scented !

I love flowers and the more unique and different the better !

I sponge rolled a mix of green and white for a background color and then had fun with a brush for the red , pink , white flowers .

It will make a lovely addition to anyone's decor -- use in living area, bedroom or just about any room you want to add this lovely floral painting to.
