Art Tips for Frame Shapes and Mat Color

Vary Frame Shapes
Add interest to a picture grouping by hanging pictures with differently shaped frames. Here two oval frames round out a diverent set of rectangular frames. Handpainted vines and faux picture wires further serve to unite the pieces.

Mat Colors
Pictures will have greater impact if matted in a contrasting color to the wall. Choose a dark mat for a light wall and vice versa.

You can hang paintings alone or in groupings or alone for varied interesting effects. Some people prefer a symmetrical hanging for a formal look, but don't rule out asymmetry for a dynamic look. Of course, there are many more variations and seemingly endless possibilities! These are just a few to get the ideas flowing. *Something to keep in mind: All of the paintings on my site list dimensions in inches. These dimensions refer to the actual canvas measurements.
